Lava from the Cumbre Vieja volcano continued to erupt, on Tuesday, with lava reaching Los Guirres beach and forming a column of smoke.
Lava from the volcano reached the beach near the gorge created by the main flow, forming a column of smoke in a small overflow of lava between the two lava flows close to the coast, south of La Laguna mountain.
With fewer seismic tremors, the volcano is believed to have entered a stabilisation phase, but the suspension of classes for 5,000 students will continue until air quality improves in the municipalities closest to the eruption.
Some 993 hectares of land were affected by the eruption on the Canary island of La Palma
The Cumbre Vieja volcano erupted on 19 September for the first time in 50 years. Since then, lava has destroyed more than 2,593 buildings and caused the evacuation of more than 7,000 people.
