The San Anton church in Madrid paid tribute to the rescuers and residents affected by the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano on the Canary Island of La Palma, by creating a Nativity scene made with Playmobil figures, Thursday.
Footage shows the Nativity scene made with Playmobil figures recreating the birth of Christ and the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano. Figures of policemen, rescuers and residents can also be seen.
“It’s a Nativity scene where we try to reflect how the volcano has destroyed many of the houses, many of the illusions that many of the people had, and above all the great affection, I think the most important thing at this time is to give them a lot of hope, a lot of affection,” said Father Angel, the priest in charge of the church of San Anton.
Celia, a visitor of the church said, “I love what they have done this year and I love that every year they are new, that each time they take a theme, so this year I like the fact that the theme of commitment has been La Palma because it is usually in the nativity scenes, which I always visit, of San Anton, which is always linked to something current.”
The San Anton church allows donations to be made on its website for those evacuated due to the eruption of the volcano.
