Mireia Rodriguez has become the first woman to play a senior men’s handball game in Spain.
Mireia, 31, made history three weeks ago after debuting with the men’s team Balonmano Albacete, which plays in the second territorial division y Castilla-La Mancha. She was seen playing in another match on Saturday.

“In the end, on a day-to-day basis, there are very few differences, they are insignificant. I change my clothes into another room. Then I meet for a technical talk with my team, like one member more. And in that aspect, there are small differences, but then, in the end, I think it is more a challenges to develop on a personal level as a player,” explained Mireia.

The club requested permission from the Castilla-La Mancha Handball Federation, which did not put any obstacles to registering Mireia in the team.

The woman had previously trained with other men’s teams, although she had never competed officially with them.

Nobody believes it, because in this we are joined by a line, it doesn’t matter the gender. That line is competition and it is sport.”
