Members of the Military Emergency Unit (UME) accompanied several residents who had been evacuated from their homes back home in order to collect their belongings in the area of La Laguna, on the island of La Palma on Monday

On October 1st, a new eruptive mouth opened at the northwest base of the volcano, generating two new lava flows that descend towards the west, endangering urban centres near the cone, such as Tajuya.

The volcano continues to spew rivers of lava since the eruption began on September 19th, and the Volcanological Institute of the Canary Islands has announced a significant increase in volcanic activity.

The Spanish government has announced that it will spend 206 million euros ($238.8 million) to rebuild the island of La Palma following the volcano’s eruption, as Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced at a press conference on Sunday.
