Spain: Thousands of left-wing protesters march on Day of Valencian Community

Thousands of antifascist and left-wing demonstrators marched through the streets of Valencia to condemn far-right extremism on Saturday, marking the ‘Day of Valencian Community.’

“October 9 is the day on which we have spent decades claiming our history, our culture, our language, our traditions. And this year, in addition, we want to put interest in the importance of being an antifascist society,” said Beatriz Cardona, a spokesperson from Intersindical Valenciana union.

The demonstration faced a small group of counter-protesters waving Spanish and Valencian flags displaying the royal ensign.

The annual march, which takes place on October 9, brings together progressive and leftist groups in Valencia, expressing their solidarity against fascism and others supporting Catalonian Independence.
