Two Guardia Civil officers rescued a dog trapped in a frozen pond in the Spanish town of Badaguas, in the region of Aragon, on Tuesday morning.

The images, released by the Guardia Civil, show the bare-chested officers making their way through the freezing water to save the animal.

The uniformed officers used a tree branch to help them break through the ice blocks formed in the reservoir and gain access to the dog.

According to local media, the owner was walking with his dog by the reservoir when the thin layer of ice on its surface cracked, and the dog fell in and was trapped.

The owner tried to rescue her pet without success, so she alerted the police, two Guardia Civil officers stationed at the Canfranc post immediately arrived and saved the dog.
