Theophilos III, the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem, arrived in Bethlehem’s Manger Square on Friday to lead the Christmas midnight mass for the Orthodox church.
Preceding his arrival was a marching band made up of local scouts, who continued forward as the Patriarch stopped to greet members of the crowd.
Several other heads of the Orthodox Church also arrived in Bethlehem for the mass.
Orthodox Christians celebrate Christmas in accordance with the Julian calendar on January 7, 13 days later than those who use the Gregorian calendar.
