The Swedish parliament voted in Magdalena Andersson as the country’s prime minister for a second time, at a sitting in Stockholm on Monday.

Andersson, who becomes Sweden’s first female prime minister, was voted into the position for the first time last week. However she was forced to resign soon after her coalition collapsed following defeat in a parliamentary budget vote.

The Social Democratic Party leader and former finance minister once again secured the vote by a narrow margin. A section of parliament gave her a standing ovation after the result was announced.
Andersson is now set to lead a single-party minority government through to general elections in September next year.
