Switzerland: Thunderstorms cause river swelling and flooding in Lucerne

Thunderstorms in central Switzerland caused floods as the Reuss river in Lucerne swelled despite its flood defence systems, on Wednesday.

The lakes of Lucerne, Thun, and Biel have all reached dangerously high levels, according to officials who have issued the maximum flood threat level.

According to local sources, rail and road traffic is facing disruptions in affected areas.
