The Syrian pavilion at the Dubai Expo 2020 was seen welcoming visitors on Tuesday.
The main theme for the Syrian exhibition was ‘We will rise together,’ with Khaled Al-Shamaa, director of the Syrian Pavilion, saying that “this is what everyone believed when we started this project. This project has to be [a] combination of Syrians working hard together to achieve our goals.”
One of the main replicas on display was a piece of rock that showed potentially the oldest alphabet writing ever documented. According to Al-Shamma “This piece that we are looking at now is the oldest document piece for the alphabet, and it was found 1,400 years Before Christ, and it was found in Ugarit, in Syria.”
The exhibition also included Noir artwork and wooden plaques with writings and pictures by various artists, all of which are meant to represent Syrian society and culture.
SOT, Khaled Al-Shamaa, Director of Syrian Pavilion: “The whole theme of the way Expo 2020 is connecting minds and creating the future. We believe that the basics of mind connection is the alphabet in the language. This piece that we are looking at now is the oldest documented piece for the alphabet, and it was found 1,400 years Before Christ, and it was found in Ugarit, in Syria. So, this is the reason we brought it here, to tell everyone and to tell the world that from this little piece, all these languages has been created and if you see at this wall, you will see words from everywhere, from Italy, from France, from China, from whatever. So we have compiled a collection of words, the roots of it is coming from different languages, all the way to the oldest alphabet in the world.”
SOT, Khaled Al-Shamaa, Director of Syrian Pavilion: “The whole message of this pavilion is together, we will rise. And this is what everyone believed when we started this project. This project has to be [a] combination of Syrians working hard together to achieve our goals.”
