Tajikistan: German FM Heiko Maas holds talks on Afghanistan with Tajik President Rahmon

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas met with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon in Dushanbe on Monday to discuss the humanitarian consequences of the turmoil in Afghanistan.

During the meeting, the officials discussed the world powers’ future actions toward Afghanistan, assistance in strengthening and protecting the Tajik-Afghan border and providing aid to the Afghan people, as well as the conditions under which agreements with the new government would be concluded.

During the working trip, the foreign minister will also hold talks with Pakistani authorities and representatives of the Taliban in Qatar.

Earlier, Heiko Maas reported that Germany intends to provide humanitarian aid to the neighbouring countries of Afghanistan.

On August 15 the Taliban took complete control of the capital and other major cities and captured all border crossings. This was followed by a mass evacuation of foreign nationals who wished to leave Afghanistan, which would continue until August 31.
