Iran nuclear deal negotiators have purportedly agreed to consider a proposal drafted by Tehran to serve as the basis for the ongoing JCPOA talks in Vienna, on Friday.
“Regarding two main documents, first, the draft on the (removal of) the sanctions, the other side accepted the views of the Islamic Republic of Iran as the basis for dialogue. Accordingly, a new document was placed as the basis of the talks in the field of sanctions, which is different from the document that was finalised in the Vienna-6 talks,” said Ali Bagheri-Kani who acts as Iranian deputy foreign minister for political affairs and Iran’s top nuclear negotiator at the Vienna talks. Bagheri-Kani’s comments came after the meeting of the JCPOA Joint Commission, which was attended by representatives of Iran, the P4+1, and the European Union in Palais Coburg.
Talks have been ongoing to revive the Iran nuclear deal also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) which the Donald Trump administration left in 2018.
SOUNDBITES:
SOT, Ali Bagheri-Kani, Iranian deputy foreign minister for political affairs and Iran’s top nuclear negotiator at the Vienna talks (Farsi): “It has been agreed that the talks will resume in the near future. SOT, Ali Bagheri-Kani, Iranian deputy foreign minister for political affairs and Iran’s top nuclear negotiator at the Vienna talks (Farsi): “In the seventh round [of Vienna talks], we presented to the other side the views and positions of the new government and the new team on the negotiable issues in the Vienna talks. Regarding two main documents, first, the draft on the (removal of) the sanctions, the other side accepted the views of the Islamic Republic of Iran as the basis for dialogue. Accordingly, a new document was placed as the basis of the talks in the field of sanctions, which is different from the document that was finalised in the Vienna-6 talks.”
SOT, Ali Bagheri-Kani, Iranian deputy foreign minister for political affairs and Iran’s top nuclear negotiator at the Vienna talks (Farsi): “On the nuclear issue, the Iranian side added its views in the text finalised in Vienna-6. But the European side resisted and did not accept that Iran’s views should be included in that document to be the basis of the talks. Over the past week, intense and serious negotiations took place between the delegations of the two sides, until the other side finally agreed to add the views of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the nuclear document to be used as the basis for talks.”
SOT, Ali Bagheri-Kani, Iranian deputy foreign minister for political affairs and Iran’s top nuclear negotiator at the Vienna talks (Farsi): “For now, at the end of the Vienna-7 talks, we will have two new bases for future talks and negotiations, which are different from the two that were finalised in Vienna-6.”
