Buddhist worshippers took part in a resurrection ritual in Bangkok’s Wat Takien temple on Friday, as part of their New Year tradition.
Worshippers appeared to be getting into the coffins as monks removed coverings.
“This ceremony is like a wishing from the Buddha and then when you lay down there inside, you [get] reborn,” said worshiper Abichaiah.
According to tradition, attendees pay a small fee to lie inside the coffins, in a ritual believed to wash away sins and bring good fortune.
It is believed that the devotees undergo a symbolic death and are then cleansed of bad luck. They are then ‘reborn’ when the monks remove the sheet.
The ritual is held twice a day.
