Tianwen-1 orbiter deploys “selfie stick”

On 31 January 2022, the China National Space Administration (CNSA) released new video footage from the Tianwen-1 Mars mission. The Tianwen-1 orbiter has deployed a video camera designed to monitor the status of key external components. The camera was placed at the end of a 1.6 metre long shape memory composite material, that can unfold itself at a certain temperature. Tianwen-1 (天问一号) is China’s first Mars exploration mission with an orbiter, a lander and a rover named Zhurong (祝融).
