Tokyo Games mascot robots in the limelight ahead of closing event

The official mascot of the 2020 Summer Olympics Miraitowa and the official mascot of the 2020 Summer Paralympics Someity were showcased to the members of the press in Tokyo on Saturday.

Developed by Games organisers and Toyota, Miraitowa and Someity were meant to greet spectators as they arrived for the games. However, given Japan’s ban on spectators, the robots were reportedly used to greet athletes arriving at sporting venues instead.
