More than 40 millimeters of rain fell in 90 minutes, according to the French national meteorological service Météo-France. It was almost “70% of what usually falls in a month”

Severe storms and flooding have been predicted across much of the south of France, where five Mediterranean departments have been declared an “orange” alert level, the second highest.
Paris was already hit by heavy storms , causing most of the French capital’s average monthly rainfall to fall in an hour and a half.

Traffic in and around the capital was momentarily halted due to heavy rain.
Despite the strength of the storm hitting the Paris region, there were relatively few disruptions and public transport was largely back to normal by the end of the evening.
A spokesman for the Paris fire brigade said there were “no significant interventions” in the capital, other than “a few flooded cellars”.
Some of the images posted on social media from other parts of France were no less impressive. In the southwest, heavy hailstorms have prompted calls for people to be careful.
