The cancellation of flights at Istanbul Airport due to heavy snowfall led to a protest by passengers inside a terminal at the transport hub on Tuesday. Tourists were seen and heard chanting ‘we need a hotel at the airport in Istanbul.
Flights were suspended in the afternoon on Monday, and Europe’s busiest airport was shut down for the first time since it replaced Istanbul’s old Ataturk Airport in 2019, while heavy snow storm paralysed transport across the city. Passengers who had been waiting for their flights had to stay at the airport overnight.
Turkish Airlines (THY) extended the suspension of its flights to and from Istanbul Airport until midnight Wednesday.
