The Aegean coastal town of Marmaris in Turkey has seen major wildfires ravaging nearby woods for the second day. Giant smoke columns can be seen throughout the coastal town, as footage showed on Thursday.

Many residents and tourists from the area have been evacuated, nonetheless, three people have died so far, according to information of Turkish Minister of Agriculture and head of the disaster agency AFAD, Bekir Pakdemirli.

Furthermore, 50 people have been reportedly hospitalised due to exposure to the fires in southern Turkey. Also, the livestock of local farmers is said to be lost to a great degree.

Strong winds blowing in the Aegean Sea and the dry season provide the flames with a perfect environment to propagate fast.

There were also other fires reported on the Turkish coast, at Manavgat, in Akseki and in Arnytakab. The firefighters are trying to contain the flames and prevent further damage to the region’s woods and housing.
