Thousands of Derby County fans rallied in Derby on Sunday to show their solidarity to the football club amid financial difficulties.

Supporters marched from the city centre to the Pride Park Stadium, where Derby host Birmingham.

The organisers and fans voiced their fears of a possible liquidation of a club and accused the owner Mel Morris of annihilating Derby County by not paying the bills.

“The thought of Derby County going out of business, we are founder members of the football league, it cannot happen. Derby County needs to survive, we need to move forward. It’s the heart and soul of the city. It means the world to so many people. We also made our friends, lifelong friends, it’s a world, it cannot die. We cannot die,” a fan said.

The city mayor Robin Wood attended the rally and addressed the fans before the match.
