UK: Major Stonehenge restoration kicks off for first time in over 60 years

Restoration of Stonehenge was seen underway on Wednesday, as scaffolding was erected with workers present at the mysterious monument in Wiltshire.
The restoration which started on September, 14 is set to repair cracks and damage inflicted on the monument due to weather conditions.
One visitor said, “I heard about the renovation on the news, but we had already decided to visit here because it was on our route back home from holiday. We thought we would come and hope the renovation hadn’t disrupted the view and it hasn’t.”
“From reading the newspaper they just poured cement into the crack they discovered, I think it’s a crack, and they are digging it out to replace it with lime mortar which breathes and flexes better,” another visitor noted on the restoration process.
Patch-ups on stones made in the 20th century will be getting an update to better hold up to weather conditions and common wear.

SOT, David, Visitor: ” I think it’s always worth preserving our history and this is such an ancient monument it’s good to see it be taken care of. I think it’s good that they’re preserving it, absolutely.”

SOT, Tilly, Visitor: “I think it’s pretty great because it is a world heritage site, to preserve it is quite amazing, quite necessary I think, but you look at the price of the now tickets and some people might say it’s lost some of its magical element with having to pay so much but I don’t think so especially if there are bits like this you can come see it from.”

SOT, Tilly, Visitor: “It’s important to keep these things I think. They’re not my ancestors because I’m not English, but are part of people’s ancestry and it’s an incredible thing to have. We don’t really know why or how, we know they came from Wales but don’t know much else other than the energetical pool it has.”
