Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said his country was “ready to do what is needed” to end the crisis between Russia and Ukraine during a joint press conference with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky in Kiev on Thursday.
Erdogan confirmed Ankara’s readiness to organise talks between Zelensky and Russian leader Vladimir Putin on the mounting tension between the two countries, saying he had the chance to stress that Turkey could “host mediation talks for both the leaders and at a technical level.”
“As I stated before, Turkey is ready to do what it needs to end the crisis between two neighbouring countries sharing the Black Sea border with Turkey,” he added.
As a result of the meeting, the Ukrainian and Turkish presidents signed agreements on a free trade zone between their respective countries, as well as on expanding the production of Bayraktar unmanned aerial vehicles in Ukraine. Erdogan arrived in Kiev on Thursday to pay an official visit upon Zelensky’s invite.

I would like to get this chance to reiterate that we will continue to support the sovereignty of Ukraine and its territorial integrity, including Crimea. I appreciate Ukraine’s leader and diplomat’s approach, encouraging common sense and dialogue.”
