Residents of Ukraine’s capital shared their reactions as new COVID-19 rules came into force in Kiev on Monday in an attempt to curb a high number of new cases.

Vaccination certificates are now required for entry into venues such as cafes, shopping centres and gyms.

Towards the end of October, Kiev’s mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said that “strict restrictions” would be implemented in the capital city at the start of November, with schools continuing with remote learning after the holidays.

The authorities have not suspended public transportation, however, a mandatory certificate of vaccination or a negative PCR test is now required for travel.

“I have not been asked for anything yet (COVID-19 related paperwork). Neither have my colleagues, whether on the metro, on buses or on trolleybuses”, explained one resident.

Another resident likened the rules to the situation in a number of EU countries.
SOT, Kiev resident (Russian): “I have not been asked for anything yet (COVID-19 related paperwork). Neither have my colleagues, whether on the metro, on buses or on trolleybuses.”

SOT, Kiev resident (Russian): “[It’s] not much fun, but I’ve already signed up for the vaccination.”

SOT, Kiev resident (Russian): “It’s fine, I guess, Europe also has such restrictions.”
