Ukraine: OSCE chair Zbigniew Rau ‘deeply concerned’ over tensions

Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau expressed “deep concern” over tensions between Ukraine and Russia on Thursday in Kiev.

The diplomat noted that the OSCE has mechanisms in place to support dialogue and cooperation in this situation.

“I will continue to ensure and encourage participating states to seek a common ground. In this context, next week I’m going to Moscow. Supporting all these conflict resolution formats and peace processes is the priority,” he outlined.

In his turn, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba supported Poland’s initiative to introduce an updated OSCE dialogue on security issues on the European continent. He stressed that the dialogue would include three topics, the main one for Ukraine will be military security.

“A topic that is actually fundamental to the future of the European security architecture is how we Europeans will respond to Russian attempts to manipulate OSCE principles and norms. Foremost, it is about the well-known question that Russia is constantly raising with all the OSCE participating states: how do they plan to ensure their security without harming Russia’s security,” the Ukrainian minister stated.

Russia is the only country that escalates the situation in Europe and continues to try to manipulate OSCE norms, Kuleba added.

Rau arrived in Kiev on Thursday following a working visit. On February 15, the politician will travel to Moscow for talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
