SOT, Antony Blinken, US State Secretary: “We will continue our relentless diplomatic efforts to prevent renewed aggression and to promote dialogue and peace. At the same time, we continue to bolster Ukraine’s ability to defend itself. US Secretary Anthony Blinken stated Washington will continue to bolster Kiev’s ability to defend itself during a joint press conference with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, on Wednesday.

“We will continue our relentless diplomatic effort to prevent renewed aggression and to promote dialogue and peace. At the same time, we’ll continue to bolster Ukraine’s ability to defend itself,” he said. He added the US will also decide on sanctions that Western countries will impose if Russia invades Ukraine. Blinken also said that he will not provide written responses to Russia’s demands at the upcoming meeting in Geneva on Friday.

“I won’t be presenting a paper at that time to Foreign Minister Lavrov. We need to see where we are and see if there remain opportunities to pursue the diplomacy and pursue the dialogue, which again, as I said, is by far the preferable course,” he said.

In his turn, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba expressed gratitude to President Biden’s administration and Anthony Blinken for all the military support Kiev had already received “to keep Ukraine defensible”.

“I will say again that Ukraine is not planning any offensive operations. We are working to strengthen our defence capabilities, and the United States is our number one partner in this,” he stressed.

According to Kuleba, the Ukrainian conflict will be resolved only when “the last Russian soldier leaves the occupied areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, the autonomous republic of Crimea and Sevastopol”.

Last month, Russia’s Foreign Ministry published draft security proposals between Moscow and Washington on ensuring the security of Russia and NATO member states. Consultations on these issues were held on January 10 in Geneva, a session of the NATO-Russia Council was held on January 12 in Brussels and a meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council took place on January 13 in Vienna.
