The storm, named Gerard, has caused at least four deaths and injured several others. President Emmanuel Macron has declared a state of emergency in affected areas, with over 20,000 homes left without electricity.

France has been hit by a severe storm, with gusts of wind reaching up to 140 km/h causing widespread damage and power outages across the country.

Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin has deployed thousands of emergency responders, including police and fire services, to assist with relief efforts. The storm has caused transportation disruptions, with train services suspended in several regions and over 200 flights cancelled at Paris’ Charles de Gaulle airport.

The government has urged citizens to exercise caution and stay indoors, with Prime Minister Jean Castex calling for “solidarity and calm” in the face of the crisis. The storm is expected to continue to move eastwards, with meteorologists warning of continued heavy rains and strong winds.”

Hurricane Gerard, which left 93,000 homes without power and damaged road, rail and ferry routes from high winds and downed trees.

Météo France has declared an orange alert level, the department is currently being hit by the first storms.
