USA: 9/11 hero janitor criticises American foreign policy ahead of anniversary

William Rodriguez, a former janitor at the World Trade Center’s North Tower criticised the American’s government policy in Afghanistan ahead of the 20-year anniversary. Rodriguez helped save dozens of lives during 9/11.

“We were supposed to go there with a mission,” Rodriguez said regarding the impulse to go to war 20 years ago, ‘which was to get Osama Bin Laden and bring him to justice. Sadly, we can say we never got it, the justice was just to kill him. We wanted to get the guy and interrogate him to get information of other cells if they were available,” Rodriguez explained from his home in North Bergen, New Jersey on Monday.

Speaking about the American troops withdrawal from Afghanistan after 20 years, Rodriguez said it was a sad situation because the people were “left open” to the Taliban once again using American weapons funded by taxpayers. “I feel terrible that now my own tax dollars are used by the Taliban,” he added.

According to his personal website, the Puerto Rican helped save 15 people from the North Tower when it was targeted and ultimately collapsed in September of 2001, subsequently receiving many awards for his heroism.
