Activists from several immigrant rights and social justice groups gathered in Washington DC on Tuesday, marking a ‘Day Without Immigrants,’ to demand immigration reform.
During this national day of action, immigrants are encouraged not to work or make purchases to raise awareness about their impact and contribution to the American economy and society.
“We won’t ever stop the fight until we gain a path to citizenship,” said one of the activists speaking during the protest.
The crowd, chanting slogans and holding banners, could be seen rallying outside the White House.

SOT, Protester: “We are tired of you playing games with our lives but not fulfilling your promises. The immigrant movement has been fighting for a path to citizenship for more than 30 years, and even though we have had some victories, like DACA and TPS, we won’t ever stop the fight until we gain a path to citizenship. In the most recent years, we felt power in the 2020 elections, when immigrants’ vote made it possible for the Democrats to win battleground states like New York, Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, among others. This made it possible for Democrats to have a majority in the Senate, and for Biden to win the presidency.”
