USA: Blue Origin successfully launches New Shepard rocket in NASA cargo mission

Blue Origin successfully launched their New Shepard rocket from the company’s launch site in West Texas on Thursday.

The test flight, which had to go through a few holds, finally set off around 10:30 AM local time (15.30 GMT). Eight minutes later, the rocket landed back on the ground followed by the crew capsule.
With no one on board, the rocket carried NASA cargo with technologies including a Doppler Lidar sensor array for detailed pictures of landing zones for Lunar landing crafts and a Descent Landing Computer to process the sensor data.

The NS-17 mission was to test the technologies for their future deployment. Additionally, the flight also carried several further NASA experiments and three paintings, ‘Suborbital Tryptych’, made by Ghanaian artist Amoako Boafo that were decorating the capsule.

Earlier this year, the company’s owner Jeff Bezos, his brother, Wally Funk and Oliver Daemen made it to suborbital space on New Shepard’s first crewed flight.
