USA: COVID vaccine booster jabs available for eligible citizens in New York City

On Friday, locals were seen queuing outside walk-in clinics to receive the COVID vaccine booster jab, following the recommendation of the director of the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Dr Rochelle Walensky.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that booster shots were available on Friday.
“I think it’s the right thing to do. Unfortunately, this is a serious, serious virus going around, and, you know, we all want to dismiss it and say it’s over, but, you know, it’s going to be around, so a booster that, one, protects you and protects the spread is a great thing,” said local resident Charles.

Eligible people are adults with high-risk jobs, people aged 65 and older or residents aged between 50 and 64 with underlying health conditions, or those who live in a long-term facility. Individuals must have received the second dose of the vaccine at least six months ago to be eligible for the booster jab.
