USA: DC reinstates indoor mask mandates as COVID-19 cases spike

An indoor mask mandate went into effect on Tuesday in Washington DC as COVID-19 cases continue to rise.

The measure was announced yesterday during a weekly press briefing by the DC Mayor Muriel Bowser and went into effect today at 06:00 local time (11:00 GMT) and will remain in place at least until January 31.

Residents lined up early morning at the pop -up COVID-19 testing site at the Farragut Square Park, some spending up to an hour waiting to be tested.

The DC health department announced it is expanding testing sites and will be also offering free COVID-19 rapid antigen testing kits to residents.​

SOT, Citizen: “I am happy they are reinstating the indoor mask mandate, seems like they are making it safer for the holidays and overall on the hospitals. If we have to put up with it we put up with it for another couple of months or weeks and hopefully it will be over.”

SOT, Citizen: “It’s fine, I am in full support of wearing masks because it keeps us all safe. Everybody should do so.”

SOT, Citizen: “There numbers are going back up that’s why I am getting tested right now. So we just got to pucker down and hopefully get out of this pretty soon. I think the mask mandate is a good thing, it sucks but it’s a good thing.”
