Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo said families of those who died at the Astroworld music festival crowd surge ‘deserved answers’ and called for an ‘objective and independent’ investigation, speaking at a presser in Houston on Saturday.

At least eight people have been confirmed to have lost their lives, while hundreds more were hospitalised after a crowd surge at the festival in Houston on Friday night.

Houston mayor Sylvester Turner said 13 people, including five minors, were still in the hospital.

Around 50,000 people were in the crowd at the festival organised by American rapper Travis Scott. The festival has now been cancelled and will not continue as planned on Saturday.
