USA: Florida animal shelter takes in rescue pets from shelters on Hurricane Ida's path

An animal shelter in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, took in rescue pets from Louisiana shelters on Hurricane Ida’s pathway over the weekend.
“The Humane Society of Broward County worked with Greater Good Charities to transport 36 dogs and 12 cats from four area shelters in New Orleans area, we brought these animals to the shelter prior to the storm, stated Cherie Wachter, vice-president of marketing at Humane Society of Broward County during in an interview on Tuesday.
“We thought it was important to take those animals out so the staff and volunteers in those facilities didn’t have to worry about them and could prepare their own homes,” Wachter went on to say.
Hundreds of thousands of residents have been left without electricity and tap water in New Orleans following the destructive aftermath of the hurricane, which for many brought back memories of the devastation left behind by Hurricane Katrina, which happened 16 years ago in the month of August.
