Monica Iken lost her husband Michael on September 11, 2001 during the attack on the twin towers. But Monica returned to ground zero in New York City to celebrate his birthday on Wednesday with some friends.
“I’m here to celebrate what would have been Michael’s 57th birthday. So happy to have friends and family here having his favourite drink merlot,” Monica said.
Monica wore her wedding dress to mark the special occasion and said she will continue the tradition.
“I know when I come here I feel Michael, and I know that he is here with me. I’m grateful and honoured that I can still do this job and still be here to honour him as long as I live,” she continued.

Thank you Michael, I know you’re talking to me now. He is right here. This is where I know he was last, this is where he’s home, and where I’m going to honour him until I am not here anymore to honour him until we’re together again in the next life.”

SOT, Monica Iken, Wife of 9/11 victim: “Yes the 20th and I said I’m going to wear my wedding dress for his birthday and 9/11 this year to honour the love we had and shared and continue to share even though he is not here and also what an honour I can still wear it, let’s put that in the books, and still be able to show how happily married we were the day I lost my soulmate.”
