A new sculpture along the Hudson River just opposite New York City is appearing to tell lower Manhattan to shush, as seen in Jersey City on Tusday.
Placed in Newport Pier Park, the 24-metre tall sculpture is called ‘Water’s Soul’.
Catalan artist Jaume Plensa said his creation in fact invites for ‘empathetic self-reflection’ and calls people to ‘protect water as one of the most precious elements in nature.’
“There is nothing like this anywhere in the world. Plensa is one of the very few artists working in the public, embraced by a broad spectrum of the public, they find something compelling, universal. we are excited to have him”, said Paul Grey, an associate of Plensa.
SOT, Paul Grey, Jaume Plensa associate: “There is nothing like this anywhere in the world. Since we live here, we are really thrilled to have it. [Artist Jaume] Plensa is one of the very few artists working in the public sphere, his work is actually embraced by a broad spectrum of the public, they find something compelling about the work, something universal, something that really strikes them. And we are excited to have him.”
SOT, Paul Grey, Jaume Plensa associate: “It’s both controversial and it is also incredibly poignant for people.”
SOT, Paul Grey, Jaume Plensa associate: “He is asking us to be silent for a moment, to consider, to absorb the beauty around us, and to step back for a minute.”
SOT, Angie, Visitor: “I was at the City Island park in New York [City], and we saw this white bloc, I read in the [Burbon] record about the sculpture. So I thought it was worth the while to come to Jersey City down to Jersey City to see the sculpture. And they don’t let me walk over to it, so I am very disappointed. I will have to come again.”
