New York’s governor-in-waiting Kathy Hochul spoke at a press conference in Albany on Wednesday.
She said that she was preparing to take office after the resignation of Governor Andrew Cuomo after his announcement on Tuesday that he was stepping down.
“I am looking forward to a smooth transition which he promised. He spoke to me about wanting to make sure, that the transition is important,” she stressed.
Cuomo’s resignation announcement came exactly a week after Attorney General Letitia James released a report that found the governor had sexually harassed several women. Hochul will become the state’s 57th female governor in August 2021.

SOT, Kathy Hochul, Lieutenant governor of New York: “I built out my senior staff and I do what I always have done. I will travel the state to meet New Yorkers to listen to them, to assure them that I have got their backs. And I will take their concerns and bring them back to our state capitol, to our partners and every level of government.”
SOT, Kathy Hochul, Lieutenant governor of New York: “I am looking forward to a smooth transition which he promised. He spoke to me about wanting to make sure, that the transition to continuity is important. That I would have an opportunity to meet the cabinet officials, other people as well. So, they view it as necessary. I am prepared to take off this as any Lieutenant governor is, from the very first hour you sworn in as the Lieutenant governor. However, I will take advantage of that time and to continue to engage with the people of the state of New York.”
SOT, Kathy Hochul, Lieutenant governor of New York: “I have a vision, but I am going to continue develop that and in the end of the 14 days, I look forward coming back to an event like this and make sure that we are ready to deal with the other challenges that we will face.”
SOT, Kathy Hochul, Lieutenant governor of New York: “I was out there fighting on the streets to raise the minimum wage. I was out there to fight for paid family leave. I have been the champion of policies to eradicate the specter of heroin and opium abuse, something that has touched my family personally. Child care issues, I have been out there making announcements on affordable housing, clean energy, economic development. So, that will continue, those policies will continue and will be even more enhanced. But in respect to the particular environment and the reputation of the current administration, I think it is pretty clear, and it is no secret, that we not have been close and I have not been associated with that. So, I know the job, I fought for the same policies. That is why I am more prepared than anyone could possibly be for this position.”
