Russia’s Daniil Medvedev talked to RT on Monday after winning his first grand slam tennis title by beating Serbia’s Novak Djokovic in the US Open final on Sunday in New York City.

“A lot of emotions going through my body and through my head, but of course just really happy and lot of relief because finally, I achieved something I was dreaming for a long time,” he said.

Medvedev noted that putting pressure on Djokovic was the key to victory.

“I knew that from the start of the match I need to turn this pressure on him and not let him be stronger because of this pressure and feed from it, because that was super important point of the match, and I’m really happy I managed to follow my plan,” the champion said.

Medvedev beat world No 1 Djokovic 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 to win his first grand slam event on Sunday. The Russian had lost his two previous major finals, against Rafael Nadal at the 2019 US Open, and Djokovic this year at the Australian Open.
