The former lawyer of US porn star Stormy Daniels Michael Avenatti proclaimed his innocence outside a New York court on Monday, after a prosecutor told jurors he had stolen nearly nearly €265,000 ($300k) in book proceeds from the adult performer.
“I’m feeling great, I’m completely innocent,” Avenatti said, adding that the case against him “should have never been filed.” The attorney’s third criminal trial in two years started on Monday, a case in which Avenatti is facing charges of wire fraud and aggravated identity theft.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Rohrbach told jurors the lawyer had lied on several occasions to steal almost $300,000 (€264,923) from Daniels, whom he represented in 2018 in several lawsuits against former US President Donald Trump.
