USA: Investigation underway after rapper Young Dolph shot dead in Memphis

Police have opened an investigation into the murder of rapper Young Dolph, who was shot dead in a Memphis cookie shop on Wednesday.

Footage from the crime scene filmed on the day of the shooting shows heavy police presence in front of the cookie shop and locals watching the events from behind the cordoned-off area.

The 36-year-old was buying cookies from Makeda’s Homemade Butter Cookies, a business he previously advertised on his Instagram, when a car pulled up and opened fire on the Memphis rapper, according to local police chief CJ Davis. The police responded to the shooting at 12:30 local time (18:30 GMT).

The artist whose real name is Adolph Robert Thornton Jr, rose to fame with the release of his independently produced debut album ‘King of Memphis’ in 2016, followed by three more albums that reached the Billboard 200 top ten.

Young Dolph has been involved in several shootings over the past few years. In 2017, he was hospitalised for several weeks after being hit by three bullets outside the Loews Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles.
