Over 1 million units were recorded to have moved through JAXPORT (Jacksonville Port Authority) in Jacksonville, Florida on Monday, up 10 percent from 2020 and surpassing the previous record set in 2019.

Despite this record, the Jacksonville Port Authority claim to have even more capacity for more ships that are awaiting to dock at other ports throughout the country as supply chain issues continue to hinder the flow of normal docking procedures.

“In Jacksonville, those ships come here, they can work immediately, those ships unload immediately, those back cargo can be put on trucks or trains taken to distribution centers or warehouses or even to retail outlets and get them on store shelves into hands of consumers very quickly,” said JAXPORT director and general manager Rober Peek.

“We have a lot capacity, a lot of space, we just spent a tremendous amount of money rebuilding a new berths, we are deepening our harbour so more ships can come in, one of our big tenants is actually ordering new cranes so, we are investing a lot of money,” he went on to say.
