USA: Lakers play final game at Staples Center before home ground renaming

Los Angeles Lakers fans came to watch their final game on Thursday, before their Los Angeles home ground is set to change names from Staples Center to Crypto.com Arena.

“We have been coming to this epic center for the past 22 years, however, it is about getting with the new stuff that is coming like the Crypto center. So excited for the new name,” commented one Lakers fan.

Other fans said they will continue to refer to the area by the soon to be retired name.
“It will always be Staples. I do not care what name it is, it will always be Staples Center forever and ever,” said Todd, a Lakers fan.

The arena is scheduled to change its name over Christmas to the Crypto.com Arena.

The Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers have played at the Staples Center for 22 years with the Lakers winning 6 NBA titles in that time, most notably the 3-peat titles between 2000-2002 under the leadership of Hall of Fame coach Phil Jackson.

The Lakers lost their final game at the Staples Center to the San Antonia Spurs 138-110 extending the team’s losing streak to four.
