USA: New Yorkers react to men"s basketball squad"s crushing loss to France at Tokyo Olympics

New Yorkers on Monday reacted to the United States men’s basketball team defeat to France 83-76 at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Team USA suffered their first Olympic loss since the 2004 games on Sunday. French star Evan Fournier led the game with 28 points.

Local Dashawn said, “New York, well not New York, the USA has to get better, they can’t win every year,” and added, “and like to see other people win too sometimes, we can’t get it all.”

Giant billboards with images of iconic New York Knicks NBA basketball RJ Barret hung over Times Square while people walked by.

Another New Yorker, Gilbert, stated, “there is a lot of parity now when you look at the NBA playouts. The player, the best player, is from Greece.”

Team USA can still qualify for the knockout stages with their two games remaining in the group stage. Their first chance for redemption is against Iran on Wednesday before facing the Czech Republic on Saturday.

SOT, Dashawn, Local: “They are getting better people from out of the country, out of the country got taller players, more athletic players. New York, well not New York, USA has to get better, they cant win every year, it’s gonna get better people, better places now, man.”

SOT, Dashawn, Local: “I’m still hopeful, but I like a lot of other teams too, and like to see other people win too sometimes, we can’t get it all.”

SOT, Gilbert, Local: “There is a lot of parity now, when you look at the NBA playouts, the player, the best player is from Greece.”

SOT, Gilbert, Local: “There is a lot of parity, in one time we could say we had the greatest players in the world. The NBA is filled with international players and that’s what we are seeing in the Olympics, we are not the best, we are just a small sample of the best at this point.”
