Jury deliberations in the trial of Ghislaine Maxwell ended without a verdict on Tuesday, as the jury continued to weigh the charges for a fourth day in a New York City courthouse.
Defence attorneys Laura Menninger and Jeffrey Pagliuca could be seen outside the courthouse after the jury was dismissed. Ghislaine’s sister was also present at the trial and could be seen surrounded by the press as she was waiting for her car.
On the fourth day of deliberations, the panellists reportedly announced that they were getting closer to reaching a verdict and asked to be dismissed at 17:00 local time (22:00 GMT) to resume deliberations on Wednesday at 09:00 (14:00 GMT).
Judge Alison Nathan warned the jury that due to COVID-19 surges in the city they might have to deliberate every day this week - including New Year’s Eve - to come up with a verdict, saying the risk of a juror catching the coronavirus puts “at risk our ability to complete this trial.”
If a juror falls ill and needs to be replaced, deliberations would have to begin from scratch.
Maxwell, a partner and close companion of Epstein, also faces sex trafficking charges related to the same case.
