USA: NYC holds funeral for police officer Jason Rivera killed on duty

New York City honoured NYPD officer Jason Rivera at a funeral held on Friday at St Patrick’s Cathedral in Manhattan.

Rivera is one of the two officers that were killed last week in the line of duty. The 22-year-old and his partner Officer Wilbert Mora were fatally shot last Friday while responding to a call in Harlem.

Police officers in full uniform could be seen lining up outside the cathedral to pay their respect.

The service was broadcasted via loudspeakers for the thousands of cops and other attendees huddling up outside in the snow. The crowd stretched as far as several blocks along Fifth Avenue.
Rivera was posthumously promoted to detective first grade at the funeral ceremony.
