USA: Police evacuate DC school after bomb threat during VP Harris's husband's visit

A Washington DC school was evacuated on Tuesday following a bomb threat during an event featuring the Vice-President’s husband Douglas Emhoff.
“Approximately at 14:15, Dunbar school, high school here received a threat to the school itself to the front desk announcing a bomb threat giving the people at that location ten minutes to leave. During this call as it turns out the Vice President’s husband Mr. Emhoff was here at a preplanned visit to the school to visit the children,” said Ashan M. Benedict, Executive Assistant Chief of Police at the Metropolitan Police Department.
Emhoff’s visit was organised as part of Black History Month, which commemorates the history of Black people in the United States each February.
Founded in 1870, at the time of segregation, Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, the school that was evacuated, was the first American public school designed for Black students.

During this call as it turns out the Vice President’s husband Mr. Emhoff was here at a preplanned visit to the school to visit the children. The information of the bomb threat was immediately passed on to his detail, to his secret service. At 2:18 he was immediately taken out of this location and left the area.”

Benedict, Executive Assistant Chief of Police at Metropolitan Police Department: “I did check with my partners at the FBI this particular threat I can’t say as this is preliminary so I can’t say with any certainty it’s not related to the recent threats to historically Black colleges, but my partners at the FBI Washington field office will work with us to kind of decipher what we have here and make those links if any but at this time it doesn’t appear to be related.”
