USA: Protest outside Dallas courthouse in response to Kyle Rittenhouse verdict

About 30 protesters attended a demonstration in response to the Kyle Rittenhouse verdict outside a Dallas courthouse on Saturday.

Some counter protesters were present in support of Rittenhouse.

“It’s dangerous because it’s giving licence, when a person kills and they get away with it, that says to them and it says to other people that it’s okay to kill, that you can kill with impunity. And it makes killing that much more likely to occur in the future,” said protester Brian Lexington.

18 year-old Kyle Rittenhouse, accused of killing two people and shooting another during racial justice protests in Kenosha in August 2020, has been acquitted of all charges on Friday.

Rittenhouse was charged with five felonies as he fatally shot Joseph Rosenbaum, 36, and Anthony Huber, 26, as well as wounding 27-year-old Gaige Grosskreutz.

SOT, Brian Lexington, Protester: “We need to speak out against this verdict and in favour of justice. It’s a grave injustice and it’s a very dangerous injustice to tolerate. It’s dangerous because it’s giving license, when a person kills and they get away with it that says to them and it says to other people that it’s okay to kill, that you can kill with impunity. And it makes killing that much more likely to occur in the future.”

SOT, Brian Lexington, Protester: “The reality is we’ve had confrontations at protesters, here today we had a guy getting in my face trying to keep us from protesting al this kind of thing we’ve had over the years and this verdict makes it more dangerous and more likely that that kind of thing will end very very.”

SOT, Keisha Rowlland, Protester: “We’re in solidarity with the victims of Kyle Rittenhouse here in the city Dallas, well city of Dallas, state of Texas and we’re not going to stand by quietly and let a miscarriage of justice that was so gross and so negligent without comment, we’re not going to make sure that when history goes along this was just with the consensus of the country, this was despicable, this was a spit in the face of the people who have died in this movement.”

SOT, Counter Protester: “They are slandering Kyle Rittenhouse, a boy who tried to protect himself when a bunch of criminals tried to attack him. And they hate him because of unknown reasons but.”

Counter Protester: “He’s a total American hero, he defended himself, used his second amendment right and they’re mad at him for white supremacy when he shot three white people, which makes no sense.”
