USA: Sheriff offers condolences to Brian Laundrie's family after human remains found in Florida park

Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno offered his condolences to the family of missing Brian Laundrie on Thursday, in a speech given at Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park in North Port, Florida.
On Wednesday, the FBI declared that human remains had been uncovered at the park next to a backpack and notebook belonging to Laundrie.
The remains are to be examined by a coroner before their identity can be revealed.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Gabby and the families here. This is tragic but I will tell you, this tragedy brings us all together,” said Marceno.
The FBI deem Laundrie a ‘person of interest’ in the murder of blogger Gabby Petito.
The 22-year-old Petito went missing over the summer as she was travelling with her fiance, Brian Laundrie, who returned to his Florida home without Petito on September 1. The two had interactions with police after reported altercations, but no charges were filed.
A manhunt has been ongoing for Laundrie, who went missing after officials started to investigate Petito’s disappearance. According to his parents, he failed to return from a hike in Florida’s Carlton Reserve on September 14.

I couldn’t be more proud of Chief Todd Garrison, Sarasota Sheriff Kurt Hoffman, the FBI, and all law enforcement agencies that are here today.”

SOT, Jayna, Local resident: “Not just me, a lot of people have a lot of questions about how that (the remains) was found, after people were here for a full month, almost a month I guess, looking and searching. And the day before yesterday, when it was open to the public, there [were] a lot of people there just because they finally opened it. And then the Laundrie’s come the next day and find his backpack and a notebook, and his, or somebody’s, personal remains.”
