USA: Show with dog-riding monkey race causes outrage among animal rights activists

A show at a fair, which features monkeys racing while riding dogs, has sparked outrage among animal rights activists in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, as seen on Saturday.

Animal rights activist Susana Hargreaves pointed out during the ‘Banana Derby’, in which two capuchin monkeys competed against each other riding on dog backs, that the animals would behave completely differently in the wild. The organiser, Philip, countered that the two monkeys involved had already been born in captivity, and therefore had not been taken away from their natural behaviour.

About a dozen animal rights activists with placards gathered in front of the fair entrance calling for a boycott of the animal show. In case the fair insisted on continuing the show with the monkeys tied to the dogs, PETA already announced a protest campaign with PETA members in front of the fairground.
