Protesters gathered in front of the White House in Washington DC on Tuesday calling for the case of Tamir Rice, a 12-year-old boy who was shot and killed by Cleveland police in 2014, to be reopened.
Congressman Jamaal Browman spoke at the rally saying, “Tamir Rice should be 19 years old today. He should be standing here with us protesting climate change and other injustices.”
Tamir Rice’s mother Samaria Rice was also present at the rally.

She said, “I am going to be meeting with Kristen Clarke and her team staff tomorrow and my attorneys to advocate to reopen for Tamir’s case on a federal level because his civil rights were violated and it needs to be reopened so I am hoping that they would consider to reopen it.”
Tamir Rice was shot on November 22, 2014 by Cleveland police officer Timothy Loehmann while playing outside with a toy gun. Rice died one day later because of the injuries he sustained. Loehmann was never charged with the killing, however he was fired from the police force for lying on his application.

SOT, Jamaal Browman, US Congressman: “And now we are negotiating an infrastructure bill. I know the infrastructure is a big word, part of that is supposed to go towards our communities who have been suffering the most. Black and brown communities, black and brown women, neglected communities, red line communities, dealing with issues of police reform, violence reduction, climate change and all of the above. And the bill is currently being gutted . Which is another example of our black lives do not matter in our country. Tamir Rice should be 19 years old today. He should be standing here with us protesting climate change and other injustices.”

SOT, Samaria Rice, Mother of Tamir Rice: “I am going to be meeting with Kristen Clarke and her team staff tomorrow and my attorneys to advocate to reopen for Tamir`s case on a federal level because his civil rights were violated and it needs to be reopened so I am hoping that they would consider to reopen it. He was twelve years old.”

SOT, Samaria Rice, Mother of Tamir Rice: “He was the youngest of my four children and really to keep the glue, he keep people stuck together. Not having him here is horrific and we will never forget him you know. It is very hard to not have him here. Tamir would have been twenty years old this year and he would have graduated this year as well. It is really horrible that he is not here and he is not able to live, you know he was stolen from me.”
