US president Joe Biden discussed climate change on his visit to damaged neighbourhoods hit by Hurricane Ida in Queens, New York on Tuesday.
“And so, folks, we got to listen to the scientists and the economists and the national security experts. They all tell us this is code red, the nation and the world are in peril. That’s not hyperbole. That is a fact,” stated Biden during the presser.
The president assured the public that his administration would deliver full support in the form of Hurricane relief and rebuilding measures, while stating that ‘bold actions’ are now needed to fight climate change.
The areas hit by the remnants of the storm that made landfall in Louisiana and then swept over to the Northeast have suffered from death and infrastructure damages.
“Folks, the evidence is clear, climate change poses an existential threat to our lives, to our economy, and the threat is here, it’s not going to get any better. The question is can it get worse? We can stop it from getting worse,” Biden went on to say.
Hurricane Ida’s floods have killed dozens of people on the east coast while wildfires were destroying whole residential areas and crucial infrastructure on the west coast.
