Heavy rainfall from Tropical Storm Henri has caused instances of flash flooding in Newark, New Jersey, on Sunday.

The flooding of certain streets led to cars breaking down as drivers attempted to navigate through the water as the storm approaches the north-east coast of the US.

The US National Hurricane Centre has warned that Henri is “expected to produce rainfall amounts of 3 to 6 inches (15cm)” in New Jersey and certain neighbouring areas, with the heavy rainfall having the potential to cause “considerable flash, urban, and small stream flooding, along with the potential for widespread minor to isolated moderate river flooding.”

The storm, which was downgraded from a hurricane on Sunday morning, is expected to make landfall close to the boundary between Rhode Island and Connecticut.
